The Story Of The First $1 Dollar Bill

Let's talk about the very first U.S. $1 banknote! At a time when the Union government was struggling to raise financing in the wake of decreased tax revenues from the South and the Panic of 1857, they realized that a possible solution was to just print their own legal tender notes and force people to accept them (accept for banks, which were treated much better relatively). There's a lot more information provided in the video, and hopefully this will answer questions and give you a good understanding of what we started with for our $1 dollar bills in the United States!
