Limelight - Rush - Cover

Limelight, a song by the Canadian band Rush, first appeared on the album Moving Pictures in 1981. Neil Peart, the band's drummer, wrote the lyrics. The music was written by bassist Geddy Lee and Guitarist Alex Lifeson. Limelight is about how the trappings of success and fame can cause one to lose their privacy and strain their personal life and relationships. Apparently this was a problem for Neil Peart who very much valued his privacy and solitude. Alex Lifeson has said that his guitar solo on Limelight is his own personal favorite guitar solo. Geddy Lee's bass playing on Limelight set a high standard for all aspiring rock bassists.

The song is very challenging to sing because Geddy Lee sings at a very high range for a male. The guitar parts are also very challenging, for example, the channel switching between overdrive and chorus, the intricate right hand arpeggios, and the full and unorthodox chords on the left hand. The song was written as a tight arrangement and is unforgiving to any mistakes.

Singing and playing the guitar part at the same time will put any musician to the test.
