John F. Kennedy was the 35th President of the United States, serving from 1961 until his assassination in 1963. He was born on May 29, 1917, in Brookline, Massachusetts, to Joseph P. Kennedy Sr. and Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy. Kennedy was the second of nine children in the family.
Kennedy attended Harvard University, where he excelled academically and was involved in various extracurricular activities. After graduating in 1940, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served during World War II, earning several awards for his service.
In 1946, Kennedy was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives, representing the 11th Congressional District of Massachusetts. He served three terms in the House before being elected to the U.S. Senate in 1952. In 1960, he ran for President and won a close election against Republican nominee Richard Nixon.
As President, Kennedy focused on domestic issues such as civil rights and foreign policy, including the Cuban Missile Crisis and the Vietnam War. He also implemented a number of programs aimed at improving the economy and helping the poor, including the creation of the Peace Corps.
Kennedy was assassinated on November 22, 1963, in Dallas, Texas, while riding in a motorcade through the city. His assassination was a shock to the nation and had a profound impact on American politics and history. Kennedy is remembered as a charismatic and influential leader who inspired many people around the world.
