MIDDLE-EARTH: SHADOW OF WAR | Pt.1: The New Ring! Return to Mordor! (PS5 Gameplay)

Middle-earth: Shadow of War is an action RPG, the sequel to 2014's Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor. Shadow of War continues the previous game's narrative, which is based on J. R. R. Tolkien's legendarium and set in between the events of Peter Jackson's The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings film trilogies. Shadow of War continues the story of Talion, once an elite Ranger of Gondor tasked with guarding The Black Gate, the great barrier which stands at the entrance to Mordor, home of the Dark Lord Sauron. Though Sauron and his monstrous hordes were defeated centuries ago by the armies of the Last Alliance of Men and Elves when Isildur, son of King Elendil of Gondor, cut The One Ring from his hand, the Dark Lord can never truly die, and Mordor remains a cursed land. Thus, for hundreds of years, the Rangers of Gondor kept watch over Mordor, lest the Dark Lord and his armies return to once again threaten all of Middle-Earth, and for hundreds of years, there was peace.

Or so it seemed.

Though destroyed in body, the immortal spirit of the Dark Lord lived on, patiently biding his time, gathering his strength, and slowly rebuilding his armies deep in the heart of Mordor, hidden from all- even the ever vigilant Rangers of Gondor. So it was that the renewed army of Mordor launched a brutal surprise attack against the unsuspecting Guardians of the Black Gate, killing every last man, woman, and child.

Or so it seemed.

Instead of dying, Talion was bound together with an immortal being known only as “The Wraith” preserving his life and granting him immense power. Through their shared quest for vengeance against those who had taken everything from them, it was revealed that “The Wraith” was the legendary Elf Lord Celebrimbor, the greatest smith of the Second Age, who, thousands of years ago, was deceived by Sauron into forging the Rings of Power, which would go on to shape the fate of Middle-Earth.

“Three Rings for the Elven Kings under the sky,
Seven for the Dwarf Lords in their halls of stone,
Nine for the mortal Men doomed to die,
One for the Dark Lord on his dark throne,
In the land of Mordor where the shadows lie.

One ring to rule them all,
One ring to find them,
One ring to bring them all,
And in the darkness bind them,
In the land of Mordor where the shadows lie.”

But now, the time has come for a New Ring.

Together, they will build an army worthy of Mordor, and defeat the Dark Lord once and for all.
