The 100th anniversary of the liberation of #İzmir, in western #Turkey, from Greek occupation in 1922, was celebrated with a concert by popstar #Tarkan.
It is thought that 2 million people attended the concert in Izmir, which is considered one of the strongholds of secularism in Turkey.
Tarkan, whose recent song “Geccek” (This will pass) became hugely popular among secular opposition as it is thought to symbolize the end of the reign of President Tayyip Erdogan, stayed on the scene for two and a half hours.
At the end of his concert, Tarkan made the following remarks, referring to the political polarization in the country:
“Don't worry about everything. Life is too short. You see, my scene was destroyed. Life is never clear you never know what will happen. Everything can change suddenly. That's why you need to know the value of every moment. You have to live each day like it's your last. We have to love each other. We must not break, we must be united. We must live in peace. We are such a nation, we need to catch it again.”
