An earthquake occurred in İzmir, which is the third-largest city in Turkey. The magnitude of the earthquake was 6.6 according to AFAD. 12 people were killed and 438 injured as a result of this disaster. The earthquake occurred in the afternoon. It occurred at a depth of about 16 kilometres. One person was drowned when huge waves hit the land. Many people have been rescued from the debris so far. There have been many aftershocks. 21 of them were more powerful than magnitude 4.0. Some buildings were destroyed or damaged. Over 50 vehicles and nearly 200 rescue workers were dispatched there. The Turkish Red Crescent sent staffers, vehicles, and mobile field kitchens. They can serve over 25,000 people. It also sent a lot of disaster tents, blankets and beds. A crisis desk was established. Helicopters are also used in search and rescue. The earthquake was felt in İstanbul, too. There were some minor damages in neighbouring cities such as Uşak, Denizli, Manisa and Muğla. Authorities fear that some people might still be under the debris. Luckily, transportation or communication was not hindered after the tremor. Everyone conveys their condolences to the families for their losses.
