Dashcam video shows crash that ended a chase from Kalamazoo to Battle Creek

Battle Creek police were assisted by Kalamazoo County sheriff's deputies on Dec. 11, during a high-speed chase that went across two counties.

Kalamazoo public safety officers began to chase the 18-year-old suspect in a stolen vehicle around 4:30 p.m., according to the Battle Creek Police Department.

Once the chase made its way on I-94, Kalamazoo County sheriff's deputies took over, police said. At one point during the chase, speeds of 100 mph were reached.

The driver headed through Battle Creek when an officer used stop sticks to slow the vehicle and damage the tires, police said.

The driver swerved into the oncoming traffic lane when approaching the intersection of Riverside and Columbia, dashcam video shows.

An SUV attempted to turn right at the intersection, before colliding with the alleged stolen vehicle.

The vehicle stopped and one of its occupant was seen with their hands out the passenger-side door.

"Don't move. Hands up - put your hands up now!" a deputy is heard yelling at the suspect with his gun drawn.

At about 5 p.m., police took the driver into custody, and four minor passengers.

One passenger was taken to Bronson Battle Creek Hospital for minor injuries.

Kalamazoo County Deputies arrested the driver, who is in Kalamazoo County Jail on charges of fleeing and eluding, and possession of a stolen vehicle. Police released the minors to their parents.
