Rome was founded in the year 753 BC. The age of kings lasted until around 500 BC, then Rome was a republic for almost 500 more years, until then the Roman Empire was established in 27 BC. The empire split into multiple parts in 284 AD, the split became final in 395 AD, when an Eastern and a Western have was permanently established. The Western part dissolved in the course of the fifth century AD, but the east continued for another 1000 years. Constantinople, the capital of the Eastern Roman Empire fell in 1453, but some roman city states survived. The despotate of Morea fell in 1460, the roman remnant Trebizond in 1463, the principality of Theodoro in 1475 and the despotate of Epirus as late as 1479. Thus, Romen history officially ended, and so it spanned an incredible length of 2232 years.
