People in the Ukrainian capital are celebrating the Christmas season and keeping up daily routines thanks to generators and satellite internet access, even as Kyiv remains largely without electricity. Nine waves of attacks on critical infrastructure across Ukraine since October have disconnected substantial parts of the energy grid, state energy agency Ukrenergo said on Monday, December 19. The agency warned that critical enterprises are the first priority for restoration, and individual homes may take a long time to come back online, even in Kyiv. This footage from Maria Avdeeva shows people in a cafe in the northern part of the city that has electricity and is decorated for Christmas. Avdeeva said in a Twitter post on Monday that the business operates on generator power and offers internet through the Starlink network.
