Vancouver, CANADA (May 4, 2022) – Global muon tomography pioneer Ideon Technologies recently deployed its subsurface Discovery Platform™ on Oak Island, Nova Scotia as part of The History Channel’s long-running hit reality show The Curse of Oak Island. The news was revealed on the season finale of the show this week.

The Oak Island team is well-known for its adoption of new technological innovations to help unravel the mystery of the area, which has attracted treasure hunters for more than 200 years. The popular show, now wrapping up its ninth season, follows the exploration expeditions of brothers Rick and Marty Lagina and their team of archeologists, field surveyors, local experts, and guests — such as Ideon.

Ideon uses the energy from supernova explosions in space to provide x-ray-like imaging beneath the Earth’s surface. The company’s Discovery Platform integrates proprietary detectors, inversion technologies, and software algorithms to produce 3D density maps of features up to 1 km underground, providing the ability to locate subsurface anomalies and increase exploration certainty. The Oak Island project was one of the first deployments in the world of Ideon’s newly miniaturized borehole detectors, most often used in mineral exploration applications.

Ideon began deployment of muon tomography on Oak Island late last year. Currently, more than a dozen detectors are positioned on the island, continuously streaming data back to the Ideon labs in British Columbia.
