This is the moment an Uber driver drops a probable fare-dodging woman off at night time at the side of the road after her boyfriend cancelled the ride apparently hoping that she would still get a free lift.
Lots of online forums report how it is a known scam whereby the Uber driver may not always notice that the ride has been cancelled, and at that point the metre stops running.
But if the driver does not notice, then the person inside gets taken to the destination anyway except that the rider does not get paid.
It works especially when the driver is using an alternative GPS system and does not have their eyes on the Uber App where the message will appear that the rider cancelled.
Eddie Navarrette has been a full-time driver for Uber for five years and said he keeps his Cobra SC400D dash cam video camera operating all the time to make sure he's covered in the event of problems.
He confirmed the number one reason why people cancel rides midway through is because they are "trying to take advantage and screw me out of my money".
He told Newsflash: "I have bills to pay just like everybody else in this world."
In this case, he captured the way the woman's boyfriend allegedly cancelled the ride mid-journey, apparently hoping that a less experienced driver would still drop the young woman off for free.
Eddie said: "I have had this happen to me a couple of other times and I've got at least two other videos on my TikTok where there have been mid way cancellations and they all ended up with the same end result of me kicking them out of my car."
Speaking about the stunt that involved evolve the woman being dropped off at the first opportunity available despite the fact it was night time he said: "Me personally I don’t think it’s Ubers fault, but something needs to change on issues like mid-ride cancels as it’s not only dangerous for the people being dropped off but it’s also dangerous for the drivers."
He added that they could easily react with violence at being forced to get out halfway through.
He said: "Getting kicked out of the car, they could get angry and possibly get aggressive."
On this occasion, he said the cancellation did result in him getting a small fee, something like USD 2, although he could not recall exactly.
Eddie added: "My advice to new drivers for Uber/Lyft is to have a dash cam on and always be recording while in a ride. Most importantly always go with your gut if you get a weird feeling or feel uncomfortable about the rider you have the right to cancel or complete that ride and request them to exit your vehicle."
