Did you know there have been less than 50 face transplants performed around the world? In 2006, a 21 year old man named Andy Sandness lost nearly half ass face in a tragic accident and retreated from society after the constant looks of fear and confusion he would receive following his recovery. Although he was happy to be alive, Andy hoped for a chance to look normal again.

After almost a decade Andy’s prayers were answered when his surgeon Dr. Mardini said he was being considered for a face transplant. Following the tragic death of another 21 year old man named Calen Ross.

Dr. Mardini and a team of over 60 surgeons at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, New York trained for 50 Saturdays over 3 years practising the surgery and transplanting the faces of cadaver heads before feeling confident enough to go through with the procedure.

When they were finally ready, Andy came in and received a life-changing transformative face transplant procedure which not only helped restore his face but also restored Andy’s fate in the world as society would finally accept him again.

You would not believe what he looks like today!
