War at Azovstal

‘[Ukrainian soldier] said, ‘All these damned Russians must be killed,’ recalls Irina, a Donbass resident. Irina and her husband Yashat lived close to the Azovstal plant, where the nationalists hid for about 2 months. The woman says they suffered a lot, and it’s a miracle they stayed alive.

The family used to have a cozy flat. Now there are large holes in the walls where windows once were and broken furniture. The place turned into ruins due to the daily shelling from the plant. Irina’s husband, Yashat, claims the Ukrainian military, who hid at Azovstal, acted immorally: ‘There used to be shops down there. They broke into them. There was a big mall full of jewelry, gold and silver, electronics. They took what they wanted.’

Watch the video and listen to the family’s experience of living in close proximity to the nationalists.
