Ben Wallace was interviewed by Lucy Fisher of Times Radio on 15 December 2022, ten months into the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Here we highlight about a minute because it is so very interesting. The full interview is available at youtu.be/UuHbcM9Gg40

"But remember this, and I think that people are forgetting.. NATO never sought to compete with the Soviet Union as it was then, Russia now, on a battle-for-battle like-for-like method. We would substitute mass with precision. We used combined arms maneuver, or fire-and-maneuver as opposed to fire support in a sort of stand-alone way, to defeat them. And what you're seeing in Ukraine, successfully, is basically our tactics being used against Russia in a way we always thought it would be, with the result that Russia has not been successful. But, when you get into artillery duels, which is what you're seeing in places like Bakhmut, where both sides play a traditional artillery
duel, then of course you start to consume huge amounts (of artillery supplies), and that wouldn't normally be the way we'd fight. So I
think one thing I take slight issue with is, I'm not entirely sure we'd be fighting the way you'd predict, but nevertheless yes we've got
lower stocks, but we're going to invest in it, we've already started placing the orders now."
