People should be 'really careful' on TikTok, says CIA Director
CIA Director William Burns warned American users of TikTok that they should be “really careful” due to what he said were security concerns over the popular, Chinese-owned social media app.
Speaking to PBS on Friday (December 16) Burns said that he shared concerns expressed by other U.S. officials that TikTok could pose a danger to U.S. national security.
Many federal agencies, including the White House and the Defense, Homeland Security and State departments, ban TikTok from government-owned devices, and on Wednesday (December 14) the Senate passed a bill to bar all federal employees from using the app.
TikTok has said the concerns are largely fueled by misinformation. The legislation would not affect the more than 100 million Americans who use TikTok on private or company-owned devices.
