The movie is set in an alternate world, where black people have taken up all the liberties. The blacks are responsible for much of the scientific discoveries, and their contribution in the field of music, cinema, and art. Whites are regarded as problem causing people, involved in illicit dealings, violence, and other serious crimes. One day, Pinnock visits the VP of the candy factory and asks him to promote him. The next day, he finds out that the foreman's position at the factory is vacant.

He is then fired because the owner noticed him peeping at his wife when he delivered a package. The Pinnock family is woken up by the landlord, who has arrived there with a couple of police officers. They ask them to evacuate the house, if they fail to pay their rent soon. Some white people gather around the place and start throwing bottles at the police. In the film, Pinnock takes Thaddeus to a bank and orders the teller to call his superior.

In the film, Thaddeus tries to convince Stanley, a white man, that he is a robber and asks him to let him go. Stanley accuses him of complaining about his lost job and tells him to move on with his life. Meanwhile, the police arrive at the house and start searching for Thadus. Stanley tries to convince Pinnock to leave, but he refuses and stays with him until he is taken to the hospital. Police officers arrive and shoot dead Thaddeus after noticing a gun in his hand. The movie ends as little Donnie looks on as his father-in-law drives away in his car.
