TSA intercepts record number of firearms at airport security checkpoints

The Transportation Security Administration intercepted a record number of firearms this year.

The agency said as of Friday, it stopped 6,301 guns at checkpoints this year. 88% of them were loaded.

In 2021, TSA stopped nearly 6,000 firearms.

To discourage people from bringing weapons through checkpoints, the TSA has increased the civil penalty to nearly $15,000.
