Thousands of protesters took to the streets of Buenos Aires on Friday, as inflation soared to over 90 percent in November. Organised by trade unions and social justice groups, the demonstrators renounced the amount of the ‚aguinaldo’ bonus proposed by the government, demanding higher compensation for skyrocketing cost-of-living prices. Crowds could be seen moving through the streets and blocking roads, eventually gathering at the Ministry of Economy. Speaking during an interview, a protester stated "We are all very happy with the World Cup but they are using it so they don't see us, so they don't see how they are punishing us, they are punishing the workers.” The protest came in response to the national government announcing the payment of a Complementary Annual Salary (SAC) - known as aguinaldo - of 13,500 ($80, €75) to beneficiaries of the Potenciar Trabajo (English: ‚Enhance work’) programme affecting millions. Argentina's economy has battled for ground as inflation was at 92 percent in close to the end of the year.
