The Niles police department released the bodycam footage from the dangerous stolen vehicle police chase on December 8th.

It started around 4:30 a.m. when Niles police started chasing a Ford F550, reportedly stolen from Trumbull Metal Inc. a few days earlier.

Multiple times during the chase, the suspect put the truck in reverse and rammed into two different police cruisers.

Police say the chase continued on side streets where the suspect tried to force cruisers off the road to avoid collision.

On an abandoned railroad bed off Summitt Ave, the suspect again backed towards a cruiser. That's when a Niles Captain got out of his vehicle and fired six shots at the truck to try and prevent him from hitting the cruiser.

A few minutes later, the truck again went to ram a cruiser and even though an officer fired shots out the window, it still hit the cruiser with enough force that airbags were deployed. Two officers then fired through the windshield and struggled to get out of the car.

Police say the suspect took off and dumped the truck about a half mile from the shooting scene and was able to get away. He still has not been caught.

The three Niles police officers who fired their guns were placed on leave but are now back at work and it was determined they did not deviate from the guidelines of the departments use of force policy.
