High pressure in Canada will finally begin to break after several days of settling over that area. This pattern change will enable a surge of arctic air to come in and deepen over the eastern United States. Accompanied by a combination of heavy system snow and lake effect snow, temperatures will dive into very low levels for Christmastime, securing White Christmas potential across at least the northern half of the Great Lakes Region. Wind chills will potentially reach 10 to 30 degrees below zero in some spots.
