Hitler and the Germans attacked the western allies (USA, England) in Belgium. Victory for the Germans would have ended in a peace treaty and then the German armies could move to the eastern front to battle Russia. General Patton was sent in, and though his moves were risky and unwise, his army turned the tide and let the allies to victory.
