Large fire engulfs NYPD evidence warehouse

A huge fire broke out at a sprawling NYPD evidence and impound compound in Red Hook, Brooklyn, that local media said is used to store confiscated vehicles and large pieces of evidence. The blaze broke out at the Erie Basin Auto Pound at 700 Columbia Street, police said.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) said it was also on the scene to help the FDNY. Two firefighters sustained minor injuries while tackling the fire, NBC New York reported.
