Nelson Mandela is remembered today as a modern hero for racial equality and freedom in South Africa. He was willing to do whatever it took to end discrimination and live up to his values, even if that meant unfair imprisonment in inhumane conditions. Yet even in a situation where most of us would have given up hope, Mandela kept working to better his country. When he was finally released, he was able to work with the government that had wrongfully imprisoned him and free the whole country from apartheid. He would go on to become the first Black president of South Africa, working to help mend the social and cultural damages that apartheid had left in its wake. See all captivating history books here:
