This classic Christmas cookie is basic, simple, and delicious! It is from my Grandmother, and has been handed down through the generations. We wish you and your family a Merry Christmas!

Jack's Best Sugar Cookie Cutouts
1 - 1/2 cups butter (3 sticks), softened
4 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 cups granulated sugar
5 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon salt

In a mixing bowl, cream together butter and sugar until smooth.
Beat in eggs and vanilla.

In a separate bowl combine flour, baking powder and salt.

Combine the contents of the two bowls until well mixed.

Cover and chill dough for at least one hour or overnight.

Preheat oven to 400°.

Roll out dough on floured surface 1/4 inch to 1/2 inch thick.

Cut into shapes of any cookie-cutter.

Place cookies 1 inch apart on ungreased cookie sheets.

Bake 6 to 8 minutes in preheated oven or until edges start to brown slightly.

Immediately remove from cookie sheets onto cooling racks.

When cookies are completely cool, ice them and decorate.
