At a distance of 6 billion kilometers, Voyager 1 captured the iconic image of Earth as a tiny pixel, depicted as a pale blue dot. Even though this photo was taken before the birth of many of you, our home, the small blue dot in the center of the photo, contains all the elements and materials combined to create us. That is so, the significance of this date cannot be overstated. In only 34 minutes after this photograph was taken, the cameras were turned off permanently, leaving Voyager 1 completely in the dark. The spaceship is currently 24 billion kilometers from Earth, making it the farthest human-made object in space.
