Is it cruel to send children with down syndrome to schools? I know myself having dyslexia how it was unpleasant and frustrating to be in a school where others had ‘normal’ abilities such as reading and writing, when I at the age of 16 had the ability of a six year old. It knocks your confidence and makes you feel like garbage. So how dreadful it must be for children who have Down syndrome to sit in a school seeing others cope while you find things not as easy. Rather than help the child I often wonder if it does them great harm. Then are other children held back as the teacher is having to look after a child with Down syndrome that they may not even be trained to deal with. One suspects many children may be bullied at school than is reported. Indeed you hear stories where female girls with Down syndrome are abused sexually as often easy to manipulate into having sex. While it may seem to be a wonderful idea and all about integration and so on. The truth is putting children into schools with Down syndrome may in fact do more harm. One wonders if anyone has done any studies into if doing this benefits the children of Down syndrome or if it is just something left wing people presume will work in there lar lar land of ideas.
