Quotes -

“If you truly want time and financial freedom, you have to go into a multi-unit enterprise.”

“Our mission truly is to help protect the American Dream of business ownership through franchising.”

“You have to create the same procedures and processes, and document them for everything they have to do with management”

“I wanna teach people how to fish. That’s what we do, we teach people how to fish.”

“Franchisors do provide all of the processes and systems, manuals, training to duplicate operations. How to make the product, how to sell the product, and how to market the product. They do not give them guidance on how to manage the business.”

“Anybody that wants to explore franchising should absolutely do whatever they can to learn how to manage a small business.”

“If you set the tone, and if you set what the priorities are, people will follow that. Otherwise, they are just going to make it up. And so in the absence of leadership, somebody else will be the leader.”

“So one of the things we do have a conversation with our franchisees is how to define those targets. To build a culture of metrics, you have to have metrics.”

“Here is where technology comes in. It will be very difficult, nearly impossible to come up with that manually. What the franchisors can do is research and provide the technology, a point of sales system… that can give the franchisees the ability to come up with this information.”

“To eliminate a significant amount of the staff, I think it would be a travesty.”

“My purpose is to protect the American dream of business ownership through franchising. I don’t have to do what I do right now, I really truly don’t have to. I found my calling. I really truly love what I do.”

Concepts -
•Having only one franchise is like having a regular job but when you expand your business, that’s when you will achieve financial freedom.
•There are systems you can implement when you are facing challenges managing two or more businesses.
•Unit Managers have different skillset from District Managers and require proper training in order to do their jobs better and avoid burnout.
•The District Manager’s job is to lead, coach and inspire the Unit Managers, train Assistant Managers when requested, and build a positive culture and environment for the rest of the team.
•As an owner, creating, practicing, and applying yourself to your company culture (mission, vision, values) is very important so that your employees will follow.
•The Unit Managers will drive the culture in their respective units so it is very important to get the unit managers to buy into the company culture so that what is considered important stays in each unit despite it being unique from each other.
•Sharing the metrics and numbers with your employees will help them visualize the goals that are needed to be met. Kind of like a game where you need to score a certain amount to advance.
•A lot of the employees of a franchisee are young adults on their first jobs and it is very important to teach them how to be good employees.
