Why It Is Time To End Cash Bail
When someone is arrested, three options await them before their trial: a judge can keep them in jail, release them, or assign them cash bail. While it is often thought that cash bail is needed to drive some back to the courtroom, this is often not true. Cash bail massively impacts the finances of the people who can least afford it, and it hampers their ability to move past a bad incident. My guest is David Gaspar, the National Director of Operations at The Bail Project. The Bail Project is a 501 nonprofit organization aiming to pay bail for people who cannot do so themselves.
