The Heart of God

What is the heart of God? We hear a lot about the compassion, grace, forgiveness, healing,
restoration, acceptance, and love of God. But what is the heart of God?
(1.) The heart of God is one that includes a number of these traits and then takes action to
disperse them into the lives of those around us.
(2.) It is a heart that is moved with compassion for others regardless of the sacrifice or cost to
ourselves. It is an outward expression of walking in love.
(3.) It is a desire for an end result that will motivate us to sacrifice our time, talent, and treasures
to improve the quality of both the physical and spiritual life of someone else.
Time- work time, vacation time, family time ( sacrificed to meet the needs of others.)
Talents- using our talents to produce generosity instead of personal income.
Treasures- using our personal income and the donations of others to invest into the lives of
those we serve. ( investment is a seed )
(4.) Biblical Examples
The Good Samaritan ( Luke 33-35 )
He did not consider position or status but took action.
He did not withhold his finances or expect repayment.
He planned on coming back.
Raising of Lazarus ( John 11:32-35,38,43-48 )
Jesus was moved by the sorrow and grief of those who had lost a loved one.
He took action to bring restoration of life, relationship and family.
What Jesus did caused the Pharisees to rise up in outrage against him and create a plot to kill
him.
Jesus responds to the leading, timing, and purposes of God, not the desires of man.
Jesus death on the cross ( Luke 23:1-46 )
Jesus comes to earth, lays down his royalty to take the form of a man in the flesh.
He is so grieved with the lost state of humanity that he is moved with love and compassion to
the point of going to the cross to deliver us from our separation from God.
His act of redemption caused him much suffering and cost him his life on earth.
His desire for an end result ( the opportunity for salvation for all people ) would cause him to
sacrifice his time, talent, and treasure for the sake of all humanity.
Feeling not worthy to be used by God?
Consider Ester; a woman of exile from a foreign land and a conquered people.
Consider David; an adulterer, a murderer, and a deceiver.
Consider Saul; a persecutor of Christians, and in agreement with the stoning of Steven.
If you do not feel called to missions,or have an interest in viewing the pictures from our latest
mission outreach, then I ask that you close your eyes and give your full attention to the words of
this song titled “ The heart of God”. May it transform your heart to a heart of God , to reach
others in whatever way he is calling you to serve him.
