Short Writing:
For this memory project, I chose to study the concept of representation and my experience of being poorly represented or misrepresented. James Baldwin addressed in the film I Am Not Your Negro (2016) that certain black actors with certain acting roles were not interesting to him. Although, black people are physically being represented in film, it’s the misrepresentation of the black community that plays a vast and important role on our image and how it constantly affects our daily activities and self-awareness.

In short, the creative process was a bit challenging because I’m still processing my experiences because it is ongoing while at the same time, I’m thinking about the new experiences I will be creating. Nearly all the content I chose is from my high school because of the foundation and how more relatable my journey was during those times. ‘Sankofa’ is a Ghanaian saying that means “to go back and fetch”. For me, I always have to go back and fetch the oldest history, older history, old history, new history, and current history so I may continue to produce the desired outcomes. I just want to fulfill my purpose and goals of creating a valuable media platform that will appropriately represent the black community.
