What Investigators missed at the Lynyrd Skynyrd Plane Crash Metal Detecting - Uncut Part I video to document the recovery of items to be turned over to museums. The band crashed into a wooded and swamp area of Mississippi shortly after leaving Greenville, SC on October 20, 1977. Six people lost their lives that afternoon which were Southern Rock legends Ronnie Van Zant, Steve Gaines, Cassie Gaines, and their manager Dean Kilpatrick. Also lost were pilot Walter McCreary and co-pilot William Gray. Relics recovered during this metal detecting excavation will NOT be sold. The accident site is NOT a burial ground and is on private property that was detected with permission. We will announce in our community section the museum that will be displaying the first set of these relics. Currently an agreement is being drafted by the museum and their legal staff. The items will be turned over at no charge to the museum.

Our team has worked on many historical sites such as Andersonville Prison with the National Park Service Archaeologist in the past as well as many other state and local government agencies. Our team consist of volunteers with various expertise to include metal detecting, law enforcement, historians, and genealogist. All members cover their own travel expenses. Some detectors are donated for use by Treasure Mountain Metal Detectors to aid in our mission.

The History Seekers never sells any of their relics and that remains true in the case of this dig. It is our goal to bring these items to places that will showcase these pieces of Classic Rock/ Southern Rock / Rock N Roll History.
