Herschel Greene was a father figure for Rick Grimes, played by Andrew Lincoln, in the popular zombie television show, but actor Scott Wilson who plays the character in the show was diagnosed with terminal leukemia in 2018. Despite his illness, the actor returned after his diagnosis to film his scenes for Lincoln’s final episode but kept his illness secret from the cast and crew of the show. Wilson featured in a hallucination scene in Lincoln’s final episode and after news spread of the actor’s death, it made the scene all the more poignant. His fellow cast members remembered Wilson as very similar to his character in the show - someone who was gentle and kind.
