Surrender All in Life and Spirit Seeking with Wrong Motives

James asks a very important question to all believers. It is “What causes fights and quarrels among you”? He gives us the answer in vv. 1b, 2 and 3. It is the internal passions that we fight against. The evil desires and motivations when seeking God’s wisdom. When we pray and seek God, what we cherish in our hearts, God already knows and if it is filled with evil desires, God will not answer us (Psalm 66:18). It is critically important to our growth with Christ that we always repent of our sins and ask God to remove our hardened heart. As we learned last week, we all have the propensity to have fallow ground in and around us. God will remove that fallow ground if we ask with the right motivations. If our motivations are incorrect, He will let our hearts become harder until that moment when we lose sight of our relationship with Him. When that happens, we have truly become friends with the world.
