Bikepacking the Tuscany Trail 2022 - Volterra and San Gimignano - The Bike Challenge

Day 2 of Tuscany Trail was one to challenge our limits, overcome them and find new ones too.
We started with a gentle but long climb out of Santa Luce, which was very pleasant and in the shade, avoiding most of the heat of the morning sun...
Once we got out of Santa Luce we were greeted by a fantastic descent with stunning views over the valleys, a tough climb up to Lajatico (home of Boccelli), and a nice lunch to separate us from the tough part coming up.

We started riding again with a full belly and headed to Volterra.
A tough gravel climb started with around 3km of off-road bumpy gravel, with a final push through a busy steep road up to Volterra.

A few snacks from the local Conad and we headed out to ensure we got to our destination, San Gimignano, before dark.

Another huge climb got our mood down initially, with a super steep first part, gradients reaching 30% that many walked up, but playing some music allowed me to finish the climb without pushing the bike for once.

Once we got up there we loved the views though and pushed through to reach San Gimignano and the camping nearby.
