Aleksandar Vucic, Serbia seeks NATO (KFOR) approval to send forces to north Kosovo and Metohija

1. Serbia will ask NATO peacekeepers to let it deploy Serbian military and police to volatile northern Kosovo and Metohija, although it believes there is no chance of the request being approved, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic has said.

The European Union’s foreign policy chief Josep Borrell warned last month of the potential for “escalation and violence” after emergency talks between Kosovo and Serbia failed to resolve their long-running dispute over car licence plates used by the ethnic Serb minority in Kosovo.

2. Kosovo authorities said late Saturday that in three incidents, shots were fired from different locations at police units that were on "official duty" near northern towns.

"Individuals from certain criminal groups who blocked several roads in the north of the country, from different locations shot at police units that were on official duty near the Gazivode lake dam, on the way to the border to the Brnjak crossing with Serbia,” said police

"Police units in self-defense were forced to respond with firearms to criminal persons/groups, who retreated and moved away in an unknown direction. Also, according to information from police units on the ground, gunshots were heard in several different locations," it said.

There is no official information about injuries or damages.
