Theme: The judgments of God, are designed by God to bring people to repentance because it is not His will that any should perish but that they should repent, believe and receive Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.

“Judgment Falls”
20th in our series the Prophet Zephaniah

I. God Acts in History bring His judgment on nations - Zephaniah 3:6
* A. The events of history are not random meaningless happenings
* 1. God judges all nations according to His perfect standard of justice and righteousness
* 2. When disaster arises, the Lord has done it - Jeremiah 30:23-24
* B. Man’s powers, military forces and technology are no match for the Creator of the whole Universe
* 1. He can devastate a highly developed civilization
* 2. He can depopulate a city or a nation
* C. The people of Judah should know these things
* 1. They have been witness of  God’s judgment of Israel - 2 Kings 17:17-20
* 2. In the life time of Zephaniah they could see the judgment fulfilled that was pronounced against Assyria - Zephaniah 2:13

II. But God purpose in Judgment is to lead to repentance - Zephaniah 3:17
* A. The response to God’s judgment is the fear of the Lord 
* 1. It is the beginning of both knowledge and wisdom - Proverbs 1:7 & 9:10
* 2. The fear of the Lord will cause one to walk in obedience to the Word of the Lord
* B. God’s punishment should have caused Judah to repent
* 1. After the repentance, revival and reformation of Josiah’s days, Judah returned to her wicked ways - 2 Kings 23:31-32, 36-37; 18-19; 24:8-9
* 2. God is not willing that any persist but all come to repentance - 2 Peter 3:9
* a. We love the sinner but hate the sin
* b. We call all men everywhere to repentance
