Dr. Matthew Harb is a Board Certified Orthopedic Surgeon practicing in Washington D.C. Today we take a look at minimally invasive hip replacement

Hip replacement surgery is a common procedure that involves removing the damaged or diseased ball and socket joint of the hip and replacing it with an artificial implant. The surgery is typically performed under general anesthesia, which means the patient is unconscious during the procedure. The surgeon will make an incision in the hip and carefully remove the damaged joint before inserting the new implant. The implant typically consists of a metal ball that is attached to a stem, which is inserted into the thighbone, and a plastic socket that is attached to the pelvic bone. The surgeon will then position the new joint to ensure that it is properly aligned and functioning properly. After the surgery, the patient will need to go through a period of physical therapy to help them regain strength and mobility in their hip.
