A group of protesters from the Roma community clashed with Greek police near the 'Agia Sofia' settlement in Thessaloniki on Friday, following the police shooting of a teenage Roma boy. Footage shows the demonstrators standing near bonfires as they blocked a road near the Roma settlement. At least one protester was seen holding a firearm believed to be a shotgun. According to local media, the demonstrators were attempting to create a roadblock near a petrol station but were eventually dispersed by riot police armed with teargas. Sixteen-year-old Kostas Fragoulis was shot in the head by a police officer during a chase after allegedly failing to pay a 20 euro bill at a petrol station. He has been hospitalised and is in critical condition. Some 200 protesters gathered in Thessaloniki on Friday, as a Greek police officer appeared in court over a Roma teen’s shooting earlier in the week. The shooting coincided with the 14th anniversary of the murder of the 15-year-old student Alexis Grigoropoulos, when thousands took to the streets in Greece earlier in the week in protest against police violence and the teen’s killing, leading to clashes with police.
