Power Drome (PS2) Gameplay (RetroTink 2X Pro)

Power Drome was a cheap thrift store find that surprised the crap out of me by how much I liked it when I first played it. Between the box art, and the initial impressions I had of the game, I was thinking it was a strictly budget affair. However, once I learned the boost system, I became fairly addicted to it. The sense of speed in the game is also amazing.

This game comes from Argonaut Games, a small, lesser-known developer known for making such games as I-Ninja, Buck Bumble, Stunt Race FX, Croc, and what's the other one, oh yeah, Star Fox. So as you see their work is relatively unknown.

Power Drome had a pretty talented developer behind it, but was published by Mud Duck who I've always liked as the king of publishing "B-Grade" games like Miracle Space Race, Airborne Troopers, and ATV Racers.

It's too bad that futuristic racers almost went extinct in the 6th generation outside of F-Zero GX. I don't even remember Wipeout Fusion doing that well. So it goes without saying that Power Drome, despite being a solid game from what I have played of it joined other games in the genre like Kinetica, Extreme G, WIpeout Fusion, Star Wars- Episode 1 Racer: Revenge, Quantum Redshift, and a few others in just not being a genre gamers were particularly interested in. Wipeout HD brought some attention back to the genre for a while, but genre has long since Dried up.
