HOOT HAVE THOUGHT: Two Cops Rescue Eagle-Owl Stuck In Perimeter Net Of A Football Field

The video shows the amazing moment two men mounted on a crane rescue an eagle-owl stuck in the net of a football field.

Officers from the local police rushed to help the poor animal after they found out that it was entangled and could not release itself at around 3.30pm on Monday, 5th December.

The bird, later identified as a Eurasian eagle-owl, had reportedly trapped itself in the surrounding perimeter net of a football field in the municipality of Rute, in the province of Cordoba, Spain.

The Eurasian eagle-owl (Bubo bubo), also called the Uhu is a species of eagle-owl that predominantly resides in Eurasia.

Despite being listed as of Least Concern (LC) on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species, its populations noted a significant decrease in the past years.

In order to set the animal free, two cops from the Rute Police Department climbed on a crane and began cutting the net around it, while holding the eagle-owl with a blanket to avoid harming it.

After several minutes, the men released the bird and wrapped it in the blanket before the crane moved the platform they were standing on down.

The officer holding the bird then unwrapped the blanket, after which the animal immediately flew away.

Rute Local Police said in a statement obtained by Newsflash: "After completing the rescue operation, an eagle-owl (in danger of extinction) that had been trapped in the perimeter net of the football field was released.

"The municipal electricity service and Civil Guard collaborated together [for this rescue]."

Netizens were meanwhile delighted to see the video footage of the successful rescue that was shared on the police department's social media networks.
