BIG trains : BIG Power : Iron ore trains in Western Australia

A power parade of locomotives on the longest and heaviest trains in Australia. The locomotives featured here are SD70's as imported from the US and Canada, GE Dash 8's as built or modified by their Australian operators, GEVO's with the bigger radiators fitted for the harsh Pilbara climate, SD90's, Dash 9's and Australian built GE C44aci and EMD GT46C's built locally to suit the lighter axle load limits on the old state owned systems in Western Australia. BHP and ARG ( a Queensland Rail subsidiary ) use distributed power whilst FMG and Rio Tinto run all the power up front........other than a few places where they use pushers. Places which unfortunately are in restricted areas. Train lengths vary from 159 cars on the ARG trains to 250 cars on the FMG trains.
