Chelsea versus Manchester United – Jorginho and Casemiro score late goals in 1-1 entertaining draw.

Chelsea and Manchester United battled to a 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League after Jorginho’s penalty was canceled out by Casemiro’s injury-time equaliser.

In what was an engaging but goalless match for most of the 90 minutes, United controlled the first half-hour until Graham Potter made a tactical change, replacing Marc Cucurella with Mateo Kovacic and creating a more balanced midfield with both sides playing tactical tit for tat, making forays into each other’s defensive positions.

But Jorginho broke the deadlock with his goal from the spot in the 87th minute after McTominay was penalised for manhandling Broja during a corner kick.

In the 94th minute, with two minutes to go, United clawed back the result  through Casemiro as his header bounced off the post and passed goalkeeper Kepa, passing over the line.

The result is the fifth straight draw between both clubs, and leaves United one point behind Chelsea for fourth place in the table.

Speaking after the game, Ten Hag said: ‘We dictated the game’

“I have to make a big compliment to my team. To fight back with a fourth game in 10 days, you see the spirit and how they deal with setbacks. Really good.

“First half Rashford had two big chances, Antony one against one. You have to score goals in such moments because in top games three chances is massive. You have to score.

“We dictated the game and I am happy with that. If you concede a goal late it is difficult.

“Eight minutes before half time we had some troubles but defence in the second half we didn’t have troubles. The second half we didn’t really create big chances, but also Chelsea didn’t.

“I think it is a fair result. I would have been disappointed if we had gone without a point because we didn’t deserve that. At the end of a tough week to come here, you bring the point home.”

Bruno Fernandes speaking to Sky Sports after the match, said;

“The first half was really good from us after the tactical changes. We had some problems in the middle but we found our positions and had chances.

“They get the goal from the penalty but we kept fighting, the spirit was amazing. A point is not what we wanted but it’s a good point.

“The togetherness and the spirit is amazing, we showed it once again.

“I don’t know if it was a penalty. Scott said he was not holding him but I’d have to see it again.”

Asked about Ronaldo who didn’t play after he was suspended by Ten Haag for leaving the field before the full time whistle during the mid-week match against Tottenham.

 Fernandes added: “We don’t talk about that, no one else has to know what we think.

“The most important thing for everyone, including Cristiano, is that the team wins.”
