"She's on her way home," said President Joe Biden, announcing the release of NBA star Brittney Griner from Russian detention after a prisoner swap on Thursday during his White House remarks. In exchange, the Biden administration freed convicted arms dealer, “Merchant of Death” Viktor Bout to Russia. Meanwhile, retired Marine Paul Whelan, who has spent about 3 years more in Russian detention than Griner, said he is "disappointed" that the administration did not do more to bring him home.
