Willowbank - 30th December 1995 will go down as one of the best drag race meeting in the sports history. From the first rounds of qualifying there was excitement and expectation that this was to be a special event; no one was disappointed!
For Jim Read this was to be a poignant meeting, after 24 years of Rothmans sponsorship this would be the final event in Australia that he would be legally able to race carrying the Winfied brand identity. One can imagine the emotion that must have flowed through Jim's heart during the rounds of competition, it is a measure of the man that he remained focused. And focused he and his team were as they won the way to the final pairing. The outcome is now a part of the sports history, in a brilliant side by side race Jim overcame all barriers in his quest to win the event for his sponsor; it can be best summed up by emotional Jim Read who when interviewed after the race said "if I don't win another race this is the race I wanted to win"
This salute 'to a champion' by Snap-on take you through the Top Fuel bracket from the first round through to the finals.
It's a great video, enjoy the action and emotion of one of the finest performances by the multi-titled Jim Read.
