📖 This chapter is about: The Jews complain of grievances, Nehemiah redresses the grievances, Nehemiah's forbearance.

🕯 How does this apply today?: "Men prey upon their fellow-creatures: by despising the poor they reproach their Maker. Such conduct is a disgrace to any, but who can sufficiently abhor it when adopted by professing Christians? With compassion for the oppressed, we should lament the hardships which many in the world are groaning under; putting our souls into their souls' stead, and remembering in our prayers and succors those who are burdened. But let those who show no mercy, expect judgment without mercy." ~ Matthew Henry

📖 About the book: The Book of Nehemiah largely takes the form of a first-person memoir concerning the rebuilding of the walls of Jerusalem after the Babylonian exile by Nehemiah, a Jew who is a high official at the Persian court, and the dedication of the city and its people to God's laws. It records the workings of Nehemiah's heart, in the management of public affairs; with many devout reflections.
