What is Thermodynamics

Heat is the primordial form of energy. Humans have sought to understand and harness it since they discovered the power of fire to warm their bodies and cook their food.
But the term thermodynamics itself wasn't coined until the 19th century, when inventors were exploiting heat energy in the first steam engines.
The term combines Greek words meaning heat and power.
