Can't say how they fair up north but in the Southern US the sawtooth oak can't hardly be beat for how quickly they produce! In just 8-10 years to first acorns - by year 15 you'll have good production of a highly favored deer food!
Plant some now- 15 years passes by quick looking backwards...
