In HAITI REALITIES Marilyn Langlois tells us about the importance of Haiti in the struggle for liberation and self-determination against imperialist tyranny and greed. The people of Haiti are the world’s conscience. Their brutally enslaved African ancestors had the fortitude to rise up and cast off the dual chains of slavery and colonialism over 200 years ago, founding the first free republic in the Western Hemisphere. The ensuing backlash, with decidedly racist overtones, from global elites and successive US administrations, has shamefully sought to punish Haitians and return them to a state of mental enslavement and servitude to big capital. But Haitians won’t give up their struggle for dignity, as evidenced in the ongoing uprising unfolding throughout Haiti today.

Our presenter, Marilyn Langlois, member of the Haiti Action Committee and Haiti Emergency Relief Fund, shares images from one of her several trips to Haiti since the coup d'etat of 2004.
