Faust Checho delves into the real-life immortality of the Turrittopsis Dohrnii jellyfish which reacts to stress by restarting it’s lifespan and reverting to a sexually immature stage through a process called transdifferentiation which alters differentiated cell stages allowing them to turn into different cell types.

Most jellyfish species have a fixed lifespan but the Turrittopsis Dohrnii is able to repeat this process indefinitely and thus became the only creature in the world with limitless immortality. Let’s hope the oceans don’t dry up anytime soon.
