Ep 4 R&B Monthly Seminar 10.27.22. Guest: Rabbi Alan Betsalel Friedlander

Rabbi Alan Betsalel Friedlander is our guest on episode 4 of our show hosted by the Root & Branch Society from Jerusalem. To point out that we must oppose tyranny and expect to be heeded by tyrannical governments, the show opens with a short video about the Aktion T4 Euthanasia Program secretly implemented by the Nazi regime to murder mentally and physically disabled people by gassing, starvation and injection. When discovered by Germans and Austrians citizens who protested vigorously, the gassing stopped, although the program continued. Rabbi Friedlander begins his class by explaining what Jewish authority permits public criticism of leadership on the Internet, and then we watch two recently published videos of Jewish leaders giving permissive interpretations of Jewish abortion law. Rabbi Friedlander analyzes these videos with tact and scholarship, while sincerely defending preborn lives.

Rabbi Alan Betsalel Friedlander is a lecturer for Congregation Yeshiva Yaakov Ovenu, and a blogger of some renown. A son of Harav Leon (Eliezer) Friedlander, the great kiruv (outreach) Rav of Chicago, and a student of great poskim, Harav Aharon Soloveichik (at Yeshivas Brisk in Chicago), and Harav Chaim Yisroel Belsky (at Mesivta Torah Vodaath in Brooklyn, NY.) Rabbi Friedlander was an Adjunct Professor of Political Science at Touro College in New York before returning to Yeshiva to complete his semicha (rabbinical ordination) studies which he began under Rav Aharon Soloveichik. He was granted semicha from HaRav Chaim Yisroel Belsky. Rabbi Friedlander answers many questions about Torah and Judaism on Quora and on his blog.
